Hundreds of people in Brgy. Malico can now start businesses, get education, gain employment, and take their first steps towards improving their families’ well-being as Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) launched its Technology for Education, Employment, Entrepreneurs, and Economic Development (Tech4Ed) center in Malico Elementary School (MES).

Giving the marginalized access to digital opportunities, DICT has awarded three laptops, three headphones, router, and printer including security lock and CCTV camera worth Php 179, 869 in a ceremony held on Wednesday afternoon, February 8, 2023.

The launching was graced by Mayor Alice together with the DICT representatives Ms. MaryJane Nerona, chief of Technical Operations Division, Elvis Cayabyab, and Zandro Tocato, MES faculty and staff led by school head Delia Padillo, Vice Mayor Alvin Bravo, Sangguniang Bayan Members Leomar Saldivar, Amorsolo Pulido, Jairus Dulay, Pedrelito Bibat, Jun Serquiña, and Queen Descargar, and the Malico Barangay Council.

“Digital literacy has become indispensable for every digital citizen, whether to communicate, find employment, receive comprehensive education, or socialize. Acquiring the right set of digital skills is not only important for learning and workforce readiness but also vital to foster inclusiveness, and security,” said Mayor Alice.

Chief Nerona also added that Tech4ED will now make it possible for Malico residents to find, use and create information online that is beneficial and useful in their day-to-day lives.

The Tech4Ed Program continues to reach communities across the country and provide them with digital opportunities as it aims to establish community e-centers in areas with minimal to no access to information and government services.
