The Municipality of San Nicolas is a first-class income municipality with 33 barangays. It is situated between longitude 120⁰ 40′ (western point) and 120⁰ 52′ (eastern point), and between latitude 16⁰ 12′ (northern point) and 16⁰ 3′ (southern point). The total land area of the municipality is 23,778.85 hectares, based on the Cadastral Survey by the Land Management Bureau (LMB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
• Out of this total area, 16,839.92 hectares, or 70.82 percent, is forestland, primarily devoted to timber and non-timber production, as well as grazing purposes. Alienable and disposable lands make up 6,938.93 hectares, representing 29.18 percent of the municipality’s total land area.
• The municipality is divided into thirty-three (33) barangays, with Casaratan (37.943 hectares), Nagkaysa (43.713 hectares), Poblacion East (94.847 hectares), and Poblacion West (21.191 hectares) forming the urban core. Fianza, located at the northeastern flank of the municipality, is the largest barangay, with 6,258.16 hectares constituting more than one-fourth of the entire municipality, while Poblacion West is the smallest, covering just 21.191 hectares. Malico and San Felipe East are also relatively large barangays, with areas of 4,016.94 hectares and 3,350.54 hectares, respectively.
• Visitors from the north can access the municipality via the Manila North Road through the Municipality of Binalonan, while tourists from Manila and other southern areas can approach it through Carmen East in the Municipality of Rosales. As the crow flies, San Nicolas is approximately 86.04 kilometers due south of the City of Baguio and 201 kilometers north of Manila.
POLITICAL BOUNDARIES
• The Municipality of San Nicolas is bordered to the north by the Municipality of Itogon in the Province of Benguet; to the east by the Municipality of Santa Fe in the Province of Nueva Vizcaya; to the south by the Municipalities of Natividad and Tayug in the Province of Pangasinan; and to the west by the Agno River, which serves as a natural boundary with the Municipality of San Manuel, also in the Province of Pangasinan.
