As part of its vision for a sustainable San Nicolas, Mayor Alice has begun to shift to renewable energy by installing solar-powered lights to lit the streets and highways of the municipality at nighttime while providing the greatest environmental benefit.

β€œAside from being environmentally friendly, using solar lights is actually a cheaper option in the long run although they’re a bit pricey. The best thing here is that it is low maintenance and the LGU no longer need to allocate a fund for the monthly electric bill as they are powered by the sun, and therefore, free of charge,” Mayor Alice said.

Mayor Alice added that solar lights are a great lighting alternative at nighttime to ensure the non-stop illumination of the streets and highways. β€œHindi ito affected ng brownout kaya malaki ang maitutulong nito sa peace and order natin lalo na sa gabi.”

β€œMost importantly, it’s about time for all of us to think about the environment in whatever we do. We stand at a crucial moment in time and we must act now if we want life on Earth to be sustainable

for future generations. Let us share in the efforts to apply nature-based solutions to problems concerning the environment and unprecedented climate challenges,” the lady mayor stressed.

The solar lighting project started at the stretch of Brgy. San Roque, but Mayor Alice said it wil soon be expanded to other barangays of San Nicolas.

”I do hope our people will appreciate this initiative as we aim to continuously provide better services in a cost-effective way and beneficial in multiple ways,” she noted.
