Mayor Alice inspected the provision of water system in Sitio Mantedted, Brgy. San Felipe West on Wednesday, January 18.

Expected to be completed this Saturday, the project, which will provide water that is accessible on premises of residents, available when needed and free from contamination, started by putting up 500-meter pipe and water tank which is 3 kilometers away from the source.

Ruchel Mie Abad, 19, testified the hurdles she and her fellow residents in the said sitio faced before when they have to rely on well and river, and wait for a minimum of 3 hours particularly during summertime before they could fetch water.

“We are thankful to Mayor Alice and the local government because we no longer experience lining up at night just to fill our drum containers and going to the river to wash our clothes,” she added.

Being the local chief executive, Mayor Alice said that she sees such situation as an obligation to provide safe and reliable water sources to people through long-term solutions.

In her administration, Mayor Alice promised to ensure the availability of safe water for all through the development and implementation of water safety planning, strengthening systems and capacity for water quality surveillance and monitoring, and improvement of water, sanitation, and hygiene in town.

In the Philippines, according to the World Health Organization, around 1 in 10 people still do not have access to improved water sources.

Meanwhile, the untiring mayor together with PB Editha Bibat decided to inspect the farm-to-market road (FMR) project in Sitio Carcarmen.

About 1,000 residents, representing 3.10% of the total population of San Nicolas, will be enjoying the benefits of the concrete FMR project that connects the bridge project in Barangay San Felipe West.

The project, which started in 2020 by concreting 51 meters and 75 meters in 2021, will be continued this year by concreting the remaining 100 meters.

Residents and farmers in the area who are mostly rice and corn farmers will now be assured of ease of travel and fast transport of their agricultural produce with the completion of the road network.

“Transport of their goods to the market is now easy and less expensive,” the mayor said.
