In line with the celebration of the National Women’s Month, the local government of San Nicolas headed by Dra. Alicia L. Primicias-Enriquez, in collaboration with the Commission on Population and Development, provided free Papanicolaou (PAP) smear examination to a total of 50 women from various barangays of the town. Joining Mayor Alice were Vice Mayor Alvin Bravo, Municipal Councilor Amorsolo Pulido, Municipal Councilor Queen Descargar.

With the theme “We Make Change Work for Women”, Mayor Alice said the health campaign to women, especially the poor ones, was aimed for the detection of early cancer.

In her short message, POPCOM Officer Ms. Celia Paraguas said the Commission on Population and Development continues to render its support to LGUs in ensuring the equity and quality of life for the residents.

Meanwhile, Mayor Alice being a doctor in profession, gave a sense of thought to the attendees.

“Pap smear test in general is very important in the detection of precancerous or cancerous cells on the cervix. Their may be a little discomfort but it isn’t a good reason to neglect your well-being. Getting regular Pap smears is the best way to protect your health,” she remarked.

After the examination, the chief executive thanked all the participants and commended them for their bravery.

“Aking pinasasalamatan ang lahat ng dumalo sa programang ito, lalo na sa tapang na inyong ipinamalas habang kayo ay isinasailalim sa PAP smear test,” she expressed.

Assisting the activity are representatives of POPCOM Region 1 and the Provincial Population, Cooperative and Livelihood Development Office, Mr. Ericson Dela Cruz, Ms. Joan Casildo, Ms. Sarah Altamirano, Ms. Jessica Rosario, Ms. Marilyn Castro and Mr. Joel Rey Padilla, who conducted reproductive health lectures, PSI insertion, and pap smear.
