Capping the 3-day Orientation Course by the Local Government Academy’s priming leaders for effective local governance under the program intended for Newly Elected Officials (NEO), attending local chief executives were oriented on the concept and approaches towards economic development which allows and encourages the local government and the community to work together to achieve sustainable economic growth and development thereby bringing economic benefits as well as in the improvement of the quality of life for all residents in a locality.

Also thoroughly discussed is the government’s Universal Health Care (UHC) Act granting every citizen to health coverage that will lower out-of-pocket health expenses.

Considered a landmark for the Duterte administration, the law grants all Filipinos “immediate eligibility” and access to the full spectrum of health care which includes preventive, promotive, curative, rehabilitative, and palliative care. This can be expected for medical, dental, mental, and emergency health services.

Meanwhile, at the town’s public market, Mayor Alice saw the need that the San Nicolas Public Market should be well-lighted and must be visually be a feast for the eyes, so she put in-charge Gerry Manangan and directed him to supervise the lighting of the town market to make sure that customers or market habitues leave with a smile on their faces.

On the other hand, the Philippine National Police is now implementing the mayor’s Memorandum Order “Banning Smoking” within the periphery of the Municipal Complex. So please be advised that when you are transacting business at the Municipal Building or maybe just hanging around the Municipal Complex, you are no longer allowed to smoke cigarette or use vape either.

This order is in compliance with the campaign of President Rodrigo Duterte in keeping government offices 100% smoke-free with respect to the provisions of R.A. 9211, which prohibits smoking in public places and strengthened by CSC Memorandum Circular No. 17, s. 2009.

The Policy, the mayor said, is applicable within the premises including buildings and grounds of the San Nicolas Municipal Complex and is not a “kill-joy” or intended to “kill smoker’s joy” but is aimed at providing a healthy and sustainable environment for all.”

The mayor had asked the cooperation of everyone to make sure that this Policy is implemented and followed.
