Mayor Alice is currently attending an Orientation Course priming leaders for effective local governance under the program intended for Newly Elected Officials (NEO) hosted by the Local Government Academy. She is in a group with Bugallon Mayor Priscilla “Mely” Ignacio Espino and DILG’s Agnes De Leon.
Meanwhile, Vice Mayor Alvin Bravo took the helm of leadership and represented her to the Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaign held at the town’s Multi-purpose Gym.
The IEC is a partnership project by the National Power Corporation, PAGASA, San Roque Power Corporation, the province of Pangasinan through the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, and the Municipality of San Nicolas through the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
The event, held in part of the celebration of the National Disaster Resilience Month (NRCM), is an information campaign in educating the people particularly disaster action officers on the operation of the San Roque Dam which includes the NPC Dam Safety Program, Flood Forecasting and Warning Operation during the flood season. The Emergency Action Plan for emergency scenarios has also been laid out during the occasion.
The Vice Mayor, in a brief remark at the ceremony, had asked for the active collaboration of all the barangay officials and school officials as well while underscoring the importance of knowledge and information especially when it comes to dealing with disasters. He also emphasized the problems that the town is now facing which actually play a big part in the solutions such as the proper handling and disposal of garbage and the attitude of the San Nicolanian community towards building a better San Nicolas.
Col. Rhodyn Luchinvar Oro, PDRRM Officer of the Province of Pangasinan, for his part, had cited the demand for members of the community who have a deep understanding of disaster issues in the community they belong to address them better when the time comes.
He assured that the provincial government under the leadership of Governor Amado “Pogi” Espino III will be very supportive and will play a big role in addressing issues that affect the community.
