The Philippine National Police (PNP) San Nicolas and the Local Government Unit (LGU) in coordination with Pangasinan Police Provincial Offoce (Pang PPO) commemorated the 5th Death Anniversary of SAF 44 – Day of National Remembrance for Gallant SAF 44 at the Municipal Complex.
PLT COL Bernett M. Nabunat, DPDO, representative of PCOL. Redrico A. Maranan, Provincial Director of Pang PPO, PCPT. Renato A. Gacad, Congressman Tyrone D. Agabas , Municipal Mayor Alicia L. Primicias-Enriquez and the family of the late Ephraim Mejia of SAF 44, led the wreath-laying ceremony as a tribute to the 44 Special Action Force members who were killed in the botched Mamasapano operation in 2015.
The objective of this activity is to integrate all the efforts for the advocacy campaign in grateful recognition of the supreme sacrifice made by the Gallant SAF 44, and to commemorate their heroism. It also aims to generate popular support in promoting enduring peace in society.” the Mayor said in a statement.
Presidential Proclamation No. 164 issued by President Rodrigo R. Duterte on February 21, 2017, declared January 25 of as National Day of Remembrance in honor of the heroic death of the 44 police commandos of the PNP Special Action Force (SAF). The proclamation said the memory of the SAF 44 “serves as a constant reminder of the continuing sacrifices made by our valiant uniformed men and women in the line of duty.
