The local government of San Nicolas has once again administered booster shots in a bid to give its adult population continuous protection against COVID-19.

Secretary of Health Francisco T. Duque III announced that the interval for the administration of booster doses shall be shortened, following the approval of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Under this new policy, boosters may already be given to adults at least three months after the second dose of a primary two-dose vaccine, or least two months after the primary single-dose vaccine is given.

According to the guidelines, vaccinees can choose either a homologous or a heterologous booster dose.

“Pwede silang pumili ng homologous o heterologous na booster vaccines. Ibig sabihin kung Sinovac ang kanilang kinuha, they have the option to use homologous Sinovac din or AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Moderna as heterologous,” Mayor Alice explained.

The chief executive urges those who had received their second doses three months ago or more to take their booster shots.

“2,450 pa lamang po ang nagpapabakuna ng kanilang booster shots kaya naman hinihikayat po namin ang mga residente na makiisa sa pagbibigay ng booster shots,” noting there could be a “breakthrough” or a possible surge in COVID-19 cases due to new variants.

Mayor Alice likewise reminded the public not to be complacent, saying “Ang paalala ko lang po sa publiko, huwag po tayo mapakampante, maintain pa rin po natin ang proteksyon natin.”
