Time heals all wounds. Another year has passedโ€ฆ thatโ€™s 12 months of experiences, 365 days of challenges, 525,600 minutes of suffering and happiness, 31,536,000 seconds of existing. Ultimately, it has been a whole lot of time to break, heal, break again, heal again, and, through this cycle of pain and pleasure, to learn by the end of it all.

They say that all wounds heal. They just require different durations to do so, depending on how deep they are and how much damage theyโ€™ve caused. This year, weโ€™ve acquired many wounds, some inflicted by ourselves, some by those around us, and others by circumstances beyond our control. Maybe some of those wounds have healed completely, leaving no scars. Maybe others have left marks we will carry forever. And maybe some are still bleeding, wounds we continue to bear as we step into this new year. One thing is certain: they healed, theyโ€™re healing, and they will heal eventually.

All wounds carry a certain kind of pain. We cannot escape that. It is an inevitable part of existence. No matter how hard we try to protect ourselves, pain is bound to find us. And so, as humans, we would do well to learn how to feel it. We must allow ourselves to pause, sit with our wounds, and truly feel. After all, what does it mean to be human if not to feel? Yet so often, we are caught up in trying to stop the bleeding, to numb the pain, to distract ourselves from suffering. We forget that pain is normal, valid, and simply a part of life. But, as someone wisely said, โ€œWe cannot stare at our wounds forever.โ€

How lucky are we then that time heals? That means we donโ€™t have to stare at them forever. Time grants us the gift of moving forward.

As we step into a new year, we carry the lessons of 2024 with us: the resilience born from enduring pain, the wisdom gained through healing, and the understanding that lifeโ€™s cycles of breaking and mending shape us into stronger, more empathetic people. The new year offers a fresh start, it may not be free of challenges, but it will be full of opportunities to apply what weโ€™ve learned. Let us move forward with hope, knowing that no matter how deep the wound, time will continue to heal, and we will continue to grow.
