Under the leadership of Mayor Alicia Primicias-Enriquez, the local government awarded four barangays as major winners in the Search for the Cleanest and Greenest Barangay of San Nicolas.
The winners were led by Brgy. Sta. Maria West headed by village chief Cesario L. Ramirez, which took the first place with a prize of PHP100,000.
Others were Brgy. Poblacion West led by PB Honorata S. Gonzales, second place—PHP60,000; and Brgy. Dalumpinas under Juanito S. Mendoza and Brgy. San Rafael West under PB Pepe P. Valencia, third place—PHP50,000.
The awarding rites, held at the Municipal Grounds, was the culmination of the four-month competition launched in September, with the aim of instilling in every barangay the importance of a clean environment and proper solid waste management.
Through a series of random assessments of each barangay, the barangays were judged based on the following criteria: general cleanliness and environment-friendly practices—30 percent; space greening and solid waste management—30 percent; disaster preparedness—30 percent; and governance performance—10 percent.
Other barangays received consolation prizes of PHP3,000 each.
