A total of 1,759 bags of certified hybrid rice seeds were distributed to rice farmers in San Nicolas as part of the Masagana 200 Rice Program from the Department of Agriculture.

Mayor Alice highlighted that the distributed rice seed varieties include HYVAR, SL 19, HABILIS, NK 5017, and US 88.

“I’m grateful to the Regional Field Office 1 of the Department of Agriculture (DA RFO1) for providing us with these seeds. These bags will help increase our yield, as San Nicolas has strong potential for competitiveness,” the local chief executive stated.

The farmer-beneficiaries are those listed in the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA) and the Rice Seed Monitoring System (RSMS).

Each farmer receives seeds for the wet cropping season of 2024, entitled to 15 kg of hybrid seeds per hectare, depending on the size of their farm.

According to the beneficiaries, this Rice Program is incredibly helpful, as many cannot afford to buy certified seeds due to their high cost.
