Nining and with an approximate land area of 107 hectares It was formerly a sitio of Barrio Sta. Maria in the eaerly 60’s. The first leader as Teniente del Barrio was the late Roman Suyat Sr.
The barangay was earlier called Cabuaan due to the abundance of the Betel nut palm tree (bua) in the locality but most of its inhabitants preferred later to call the place cabitnongan. A name derived from “Bitnong” – a local softwood species that also grow abundantly and predominantly along its creeks and riverbanks. The Bitnong trees are very important to the people as they make it into ropes for their animals and farm use.
The place is traversed with four irrigation creeks namely: Siblot, Ili, Santol, and Salumague Creeks which provide the much needed water to irrigate its very rich fertile soil. Hence, Cabitnongan is naturally an agricultural and rural community. Likewise, the barangay exterior is also traversed by the national road which is asphalt- paved and provides fater transport of people and commodities.
Since the early 80’s, the months of May to July is the planting season for string beans that supplies needs by Metro Manila. The dawns of the month of October are busy and alive with the rhythmic sounds echoing up to distant barangays as burned malagkit rice are pounded to produce the well loved pinipig called “Dudumen” which the barangay is also noted for,
At present, the barangay is a destination of visitors, picnickers and cockfight aficionados due to the location of the Esperanza Garden Resort and the San Nicolas Cockfight Arena.
