BARANGAY CACABUGAOAN
BRIEF SOCIO-ECONOMIC PROFILE
This barangay got its name from Cabugao, a town in Ilocos Sur, where the first setters come from. It is located near the foot hills of the impressive Caraballo Mountains. It is five kilometers away from Poblacion and its accessible of all kinds of land vehicles. Cacabugaoan first recognize barangay capt. Was the late Mr. Prudencio Ilasin. The ilocaon dialect is predominately spoken by the people.
Blessed by the nature with rich soil, favorable climate, considerable irrigation system and very industrious people, the place is fast becoming a flourishing barangay whre farming is an all year round activity of the people.
Last 1994, thourgh the initiatve of the municipal councilor Don Pepito Salamanca, Cacabugaoan and four other barangays of Sta Maria District were energized under the rural electrification program of Cong. Ranjit R. Shahani by PANELCO III. This project did not only give light but progress as well, prosperity and peace to the barangay.
Last August 20, 1996, most of the ricefields of the barangay were destroyed by flash flood brought by thypoon Lusing. A large eroded and created a wide and deep crater, big enough to swallow big busses. Houses in sitio centro were buried in knee deep mud and a long stretch of the school perimeter fence was destroyed. Such devastations of typhoon lusing was the worst typhoon ever to hit the barangay, according to old folks.
Last November 1998, the initiative of PNP Provincial Diretor Pol. Sr. Supt. Rosendo N. Ferrer, whose mother was from Cacabugaoan, had materialized with the widening, paving and concreting of almost 90% of the roads in the barangay, The project did not only provided a very excellent road for travel, but also a long stretch of solar drying pavement fotr the community, Other infrastructure project of this barangay by Brgy. Capt. Teodocio A. Caser and his council included the following deep wells brgy. Hall waiting sheds, multi-purpose pavement and street lights. This made the barangay more progressive and united.
The unity and reverence of the local folks was manifested in the successful hosting of the first ever barangay level Christ the King Celebration of the San Nicolas De Tolentino Parish under Rev. Jr. Numeriano Gabet as parish priest. Also, the first Basic Ecclesiastical Community (BEC) of the parish which was established here in Cacabugaoan had demonstrated the spirituality and religiousness of the people.
Prominent families in the barangay are the Salamanca, Serquina, Nibre, Ancheta and Ibale among others. Some leaders of the barangay become prominent leaders of town as Municipal Councilors like Don. Tomas Nibre, Don. Aureo Bibat and Don Pepito Salamanca. Second timer brgy. Teodocio A. Caser is also the incumbent ABC President and serving as an Ex-officio member of the SB of san Nicolas.
