BARANGAY CASARATAN
BRIEF SOCIO-ECONOMIC PROFILE
The first inhabitants of the place came from the Municipality of Sarat, Ilocos Norte. People living in the said municipality are adventurous and industrious and upon their arrival in this part of San Nicolas, Pangasinan, they decided to settle here for and build their homes. Historical records disclosed that the first settlers were the families of Mr. Roque Perico, Mr. Juan Goltiao, Mr. Eustaquio Equila and Sixta Lor. Because of their love for the place, they made this as their place of permanent residence of mutually agreed to name the place as “Casaratan”.
The first recognized leaders of the Barangay were Mr. Roque; Mr. Ernesto Casaclang; Mr. Eniseo Casaclang; Mrd. Florante Espiritu; Mr. Eligio Lampa Sr., and Mr. Antonio Espiritu.
In 1972, former strongmen, Pres. Ferdinand E. Marcos, issued an order for the reorganization of all barrios into barangays.
A barangay election was then held pursuant to Presidential Decree issued by then Pres. Ferdinand Marcos and the first Barangay Officials elected in 1972 were; Eligio Lampa Sr., Brgy. Captain; Juan Perico, Agripino Yranon, Felimon Garcia, Cornelio Lucas, Anatalio Seriosa and Martin Hora, Councilmen. Amado Aguillar was also appointed as Barangay Secretary and Tresurer.
Today, the composition of Elected Barangay Officials are: Denver B. Cabanayan, Barangay Captain: Virgilio F. Soria, Dionisia C. Dotimas, Romy B. Vicente; Menandro G. Fontanilla, Domingo Layco, Juanito Abaya and Roberto Hora as Barangay Kagawads with Hazel S. Cabanayan as elected Sangguniang Kabataan Chairman. Appointed members of the Barnagay Council of Brgy. Casaratan were: Perfecto O. Ibasco and Jovita R. Callanta as Barangay Secretary and Treasurer respectively.
The Primary source of income/livelihood of Barangay Casaratan are: farming, piggery, livestock and gravel and sand.Other sources of income includes teaching profession and employment in the government services.
The inhabitants are members of the different religious congregations. Among the dominant religious congregations includes the Roman Catholic; the Iglesia Ni Cristo; the United Methodist Church, the Seventh Day Adventist; and United Church of Christ in the Philippines.
