BARANGAY POBLACION WEST
BRIEF SOCIO-ECONOMIC PROFILE
Barangay Poblacion West was popularly known as Cabinmaleyan. Its name
was derived from the first settles who all came from the Municipality of
Binmaley, Pangasinan. Prior to its becoming a barangay, Barangay Poblacion West
was part and parcel of the whole town proper. In 1974, a Municipal Resolution
was passed by the Sangguniang Bayan and approved by the Municipal Mayor, dividing the town proper
into four (4) barangays namely: Barangay Casaratan, Barangay Nagkaysa, Barangay
Poblacion East and Barangay Poblacion West.
Among the prominent names Barangay Poblacion West are the Alvarez,
Salinas, Tolentino, Mejia and the Soriano families, who were all from Binmaley,
Pangasinan. The first barangay leader was the late Done Gripino Alvarez, who
later elected as the Municipal Mayor From 1917-1919. The first Teniente del Barrio was Mr. Isabelo Salinas
with Melchor Pascua, Alfredo Ocampo, Pedro Miranda, Bernardino Laureta Sr., and
Felipe Baduya as Councils.
Records show that majority of previous and present elected municipal
leaders are residents of Barangay Poblacion West, Among them were Agripino
Alvarez, Cristobal D. Rodrigo, Leoncio R. Saldivar, and Pascual E. Abad, all
former Municipal Mayors. The current Municipal Mayor Conrado B. Rodrigo, Jr.,
is likewise a resident of Barangay Poblacion West and serving his third term in
office.
Among the dominant religious congregations includes among others are the
Roman Catholic, Iglesia Ni Crisanto and Protestants.
The primary source of income of the barnagay are hollow blocks making,
sand and gravel and barangay tax collection from business stalls.
The Barangay Council, Through its Barangay Captain Francisco V. Rodrigo,
attained significant accomplishment and developments. Among these were the
construction of Waiting Shed, Barangay Outpost, Installation of Artesian Well,
road concreting of two (2) street clocks. All these were made tangible through
the unwavering support and financial assistance extended by Hon. Mayor Conrado
B. Rodrigo, Jr. On the other hand, Hon. Pangasinan Govemor, Victor E. Agbayani
donated twenty (20) pieces of monoblock chairs.
